New chapter in neglect: Chandy

Except for the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), the maiden budget of the NDA government offers nothing for Kerala and, as such, is yet another chapter in Central neglect of the State, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said.

In a statement here on Thursday, Mr. Chandy said the decision to overlook the Vizhinjam project was a matter of gross neglect. Exclusion of Kerala from the list of five States chosen for setting up AIIMS was regrettable.

In a separate statement, Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan said the government had not sanctioned any public institution for the State. . All that the State had gained was an IIT.
