The 66th edition of the Nehru Trophy boat race will be held on November 10, Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac has said.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Nehru Trophy Boat Race Society (NTBRS) at the district collectorate here on Tuesday.

Dr. Isaac said cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar would be the chief guest at the event. The boat race would help to revive the flood-hit tourism sector and Kuttanad.

The boat race, scheduled to be held at Punnamada Lake on August 11, was postponed owing to the heavy rain and floods in the second week of August.

The State government later cancelled all State-funded festivals and events. However, boat clubs, tour operators, snakeboat owners and the NTBRS urged the government to give the green signal to conduct the event.

The event will be organised without pomp and show. The NTBRS will not accept any fresh financial aid from the State government and will find sponsors at the local level.

District Collector S. Suhas presided over the meeting.
