MYL condemns Chief Secretary

June 05, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - MALAPPURAM:

Muslim Youth League (MYL) State unit president P.M. Sadikali on Wednesday criticised Chief Secretary Jiji Thomson for his remarks in favour of the controversial land survey by Gas Authority of India Ltd. (GAIL).

‘‘He (Chief Secretary) is acting like a Chief Minister. This is a democracy, where a bureaucrat has his limitations. The Chief Secretary should not cross his limits,’’ Mr. Sadikali said. The MYL leader accused Mr. Thomson of precipitating the GAIL issue by making frequent statements to provoke the protestors against the pipeline.

‘‘The Chief Secretary does not have to show such extra interest for GAIL,’’ he said.

Mr. Sadikali said the MYL was not against either the LNG Terminal or GAIL pipeline to Bangalore and Mangalore. ‘‘We oppose the laying of the pipeline through thickly populated areas,’’ he said.

The MYL leader demanded that Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan and the DYFI make their stand clear on the issue.
