Murder of woman: police intensify probe

Victim who was living alone found dead; ornaments were missing

The police have intensified investigation into the murder of a woman who was living alone at East Kombara, near Irinjalakuda, on Thursday evening.

Alice, 58, wife of the late Koonan Veetil Poulson, was found in a pool of blood in her house on Thursday. She suffered a deep wound on her neck. Her ornaments were missing.

A neighbour, who used to come for help at night, found the door locked. Later, she found Alice dead inside the house.

A police team led by DIG S. Surendran, Rural SP P. Vijayakumar, and Irinjalakdua Dy.SP Famous Varghese reached the crime spot and started investigation.

A police dog first ran 200 m towards the Orakam side and later went near a butcher’s shop. Fingerprint experts and forensic officials also pressed into service.

Poulson was running a meat shop. Workers from other States who worked at his shop used to come to their house. The police have extended investigation to them too. According to local people, some people from other States had come to sell blankets in the area on Thursday.

Alice, who has four children, was living alone in their house. Her only son is working in UK. Three daughters are married and are living elsewhere.
