Woman dies of suspected KFD

Thressyamma Joseph, 60, of Mancheriyil house at Mathamangalam, near Pulpally, who was undergoing treatment for Kyasanur Forest Disease (monkey fever), died at her home on Friday night.

District Medical Officer in-charge A. Ajayan said Thressyamma had been admitted to a private hospital in Kozhikode on April 20 with symptoms of KFD and she was shifted to another hospital there on April 25. Thressyamma was discharged from the hospital on May 2. Her blood samples, tested at the Manipal Centre for Virus Research, confirmed that she had KFD, Dr. Ajayan said. The district Health department said this was the 11th KFD death reported in the district so far. — Staff Reporter
