The Union Human Resources Development Ministry has decided to release Rs. 1.33 crore grant for setting up of Model College at Madikkai near Neeleshwaram in the district.

A decision to this effect was made in a letter sent to P. Karunakaran, MP, by the Union HRD Ministry, the MP said, addressing a press conference in Kahangad on Saturday.

The grant follows after Mr. Karunakaran had sent letter seeking the Central assistance for setting up of the college, affiliated to the Kannur University, in the educationally backward district with low Gross Enrolment ratio during XI plan period.

The amount was part of the 50 per cent share of the Rs. 2.67 crore outlay for setting up of the College while the remaining amount would be borne by the State Government, Mr. Karunakaran said, quoting the letter forwarded to him by Archana Thakur, Deputy Secretary to the HRD Ministry.
