Amid the raging debate over the encroachments and forged title deeds in Idukki district, the government has clarified that the title deed owned by Devikulam MLA S.Rajendran is a bogus one. Replying to an unstarred question raised by P.C. George in the Assembly, Revenue Minister E.Chandrasekharan said an investigation by the ADGP (Crime Branch) had proved that the title deed in the name of Mr.Rajendran was a bogus one.

He said the Idukki District Collector in 2011 had turned down an application by the MLA for a correction of the pattaya number.

Subsequently, an appeal petition filed by Mr.Rajendran had also been dismissed by the Land Revenue Commissioner in 2015.

In his written reply, the Minister informed the House that the Revenue Department, Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau, and the Crime Branch were probing allegations of forged title deeds in Munnar. A joint team of the Revenue, Police and Survey was also deployed to identify large-scale encroachments on plantations.

Mr.Rajendran had repeatedly asserted that he had an original title deed to the property in his name in Munnar, a claim that was repeated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan more than once in the Assembly.
