The body of Dinu Alex, the ardent Messi fan who left home after the defeat of his favourite team on Thursday night in the FIFA World Cup, was retrieved from the Meenachil river on Sunday morning.
His body had drifted nearly 20 km down the stream to Illickel near Kumarakom and was found among the hyacinth.
Dinu’s body, which was handed over to relatives after post-mortem at the Government Medical College hospital here, was entombed at the cemetery of Mangalavartha Roman Catholic Church at Arumanoor. According to police, the body was found by local people around 8.30 a.m., who immediately informed Girish P. Saradhy, SHO at the Kottayam (West) police station. Police teams reached the place soon and retrieved the body.
Distraught
Dinu had left a suicide note in his room saying that he was embracing death, as he had nothing else left in the world to see. He was last seen by his mother on Thursday night while he was watching the Argentina-Croatia game. According to his friends, Dinu’s mobile phone remained switched off when they called him after the game.
