The Orthodox faction of the Malankara Syrian Church has unleashed a campaign claiming that the Malankara Church Bill that is aimed at settling problems between the Orthodox and Jacobite factions of the church, will affect different Christian denominations, the Jacobite Syrian Christian Church has said in a statement issued here on Saturday.

This campaign is aimed at preventing the Bill from becoming an Act, at any cost. The Church Bill will ultimately take after the Cemetery Bill, which is applicable only to the two factions. In addition, the Orthodox faction is attempting to bring all church assets, which were accrued over the years by members of each parish, under a trust/a person. This is in stark contrast to a Supreme Court order, which said that the general body of each parish would be the final authority in temporal matters.

Knowing this, even members of the Orthodox faction were supporting the Church Bill, said spokesperson of the Jacobite Church, Kuriakose Theophilose Metropolitan, in a press release.
