Minority Affairs department to be expanded soon, says Minister

Industries minister P.K. Kunhalikutty has said that the Minority Affairs Department will be expanded soon. He was speaking at a reception accorded to the Kerala State Wakf Board chairman T.K. Saithalikkutty at the MSS Auditorium here on Sunday. “The minority department will be expanded by setting up district-level offices across the state in the coming years,” said the minister, who added that measures to bring institutions such as the Wakf Board under the Minority affairs department would also be expedited.

Stating that the government would not allow anyone to grab the Wakf properties undeservedly also maintained that such move from whoever it may be would be effectively checked by the government. The minister, who said that the government would find the required fund for the functioning of the board, stated that a pension scheme that goes with the present age would also be introduced at the Wakf board.

Urging the Wakf Board to come forward to intervene in diverse affairs that concerns the community in general Mr. Kunhalikutty maintained that the government would only appreciate such initiative from the part of the board.

IUML district general secretary M.C. Mayin Haji presided over the function. V.M. Ummer MLA presented Mr. Saithalikkutty with a ponnada on the occasion. P.T.A. Rahim MLA, district collector P.B. Salim and leaders of different Muslim groups T. Arifali, C. MUhammed Faizi and Fasal Gafoor among others attended the function.
