Minister terms SC ruling ‘contradictory’

Bar on publishing Chief Minister’s photos in ads

May 16, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:59 am IST - KANNUR:

Taking exception to the Supreme Court’s order restraining the authorities from publishing photos of Chief Ministers and other political leaders in government advertisements, Minister for Cultural Affairs K.C. Joseph has said that the apex court’s ruling is ‘contradictory’ and ‘goes against democracy.’

Speaking to reporters here on Friday, the Minister said the State government disagreed with the apex court’s order though it would be implemented.

“The State government will honour the decision of the Supreme Court that photos of the Chief Minister should not be published in government advertisements, though it completely disagreed with the ruling,” Mr. Joseph said.

Referring to the ‘contradictions’ in the apex court order that exempted the Prime Minister from the category of authorities whose photos were barred from being published in government advertisements, the Minister said that in the federal system in the country, the Chief Minister’s status was equivalent to that of the Prime Minister.
