Says he might have erred in the past

Newly sworn-in Minister for Industries and Sports E.P. Jayarajan said on Tuesday that caution in all things was his watchword as he commenced his second innings in the Pinarayi Vijayan Cabinet.

Touted as second only to Mr. Vijayan in the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government, Mr. Jayarajan had to resign under a cloud in 2016 after the Vigilance indicted him. The agency later dropped the charge against him.

Interacting with journalists at the Kesari Memorial Trust here, Mr. Jayarajan hinted that the episode had chastened him. “I am a human being. I might have erred. The point is to recognise the mistake, rectify it and move forward with caution,” he said.

The Minister promised to review specific controversial appointments in public sector undertakings. He said no tainted officer would head any PSU under his watch. The State could no more wish away the private sector. Minor technicalities and red tape should not hold up private investments.
