The government will ensure the safety of the fishermen who venture out to the sea on enforcing trawling ban, Fisheries Minister K.Babu has said.

Addressing a high-level meeting here on Tuesday to review the total fishing ban imposed by the Centre, Mr. Babu demanded the Centre to reconsider its decision. The State will enforce trawling ban only from June 15 to July 31. Traditional fishermen will be permitted to go up to 12 nautical miles as in the previous years. Steps will be taken to distribute Rs.2,700 per family during the ban period. Free ration too would be provided to the fisher folk. Special meetings will be convened in all districts at the behest of District Collectors.
