Minister launches new project

June 06, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:38 am IST - ALAPPUZHA:

Protection of environment would be taken up as an important task by the police, said Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala on Friday.

He was inaugurating the State-level project of Kerala police by planting trees on the premises of Haripad police station.

Climate change being one of the biggest issues confronting the planet, environment protection should be a prime agenda, he said.

The Minister said Kerala was facing problems arising out of over exploitation of natural resources.

Rising temperature

Increase in temperature, one of the fallout of the uncontrolled exploitation of nature, was harming flora and fauna.

Planting of trees would be an effective balancing act. A new tree should be planted when an old one is removed. Tree planting would be taken up in all police stations, he said.

Haripad grama panchayat president P.M. Chandran presided over the meeting.

District police chief V. Suresh Kumar and others spoke.
