P.A. Mohamed Riyas, Minister for Public Works and Tourism, on Thursday flagged off the Tourism Department’s “Swathanthra Yatrika” (independent rider) trip by women travellers at Gotheeswaram beach near Beypore.

The motorcycle riders’ group comprising 30 women will explore the possibility of a pilgrim circuit and other attractive destinations in the district by motorbike ride under the scheme.

At the flagging off event, Mr. Riyas said Kerala was continued to be the best destination for women riders in the country, who wanted to enjoy solo or group travel to their preferred locations.

He said that the Tourism Department was continuing with various innovative projects to promote the State’s potential in the field.

The Minister introduced the features of newly launched WhatsApp chatbot ‘Maya’ on behalf of the department. He said the new service would easily introduce all the prominent tourism destinations to travellers from across the world.

Mayor Beena Philip presided over the inaugural ceremony, which was hosted by the District Tourism Promotion Council with the support of “World of Women”, a collective of women riders.

Councillors Suresh Kollarath and Vaadiyil Navas were present.
