The Mahatma Gandhi University has landed the students of its B. Vocational programmes in a soup.
Almost a year after taking up the course and now into the third semester, these youngsters are waiting for the varsity’s examination wing to announce the dates for their first and second semester examinations. Interestingly, students who took up other courses in the similar period will sit for their third semester examinations scheduled to begin on October 26.
Students remain clueless even as the colleges concerned went ahead and finished the portions. Those who approached the examination wing seeking a reply on when their first and second semester examinations will be held could not get a clear answer. The Hindu posed this question to N. Jayakumar, Syndicate member and convener of the examination committee, to elicit a response that “colleges offering the courses offered different syllabus for the common English paper”.
Asked why the university failed to fix the issue since the last one year and more, Mr. Jayakumar came up with the oft-repeated remark. “The teachers concerned have not given the model for setting the question papers,” he said.
The varsity seems in no mood to rectify its shortcomings as clarity eludes on how to find a solution to the issue involving the students pursuing various vocational courses.
The authorities have no idea on the way forward even after admitting the fresh batch of B. Voc students this academic year. Teachers fear that the chances of the examination wing holding the pending semester examinations in a single schedule are high.
