Mahatma Gandhi University is pitching its achievements in science and the external funding bagged for various research projects in the race for the coveted best university award instituted by Governor P. Sathasivam.

Vice Chancellor Babu Sebastian claimed that the varsity is at the eighth position in the h-index (a measure to assess the quality of research in science) citation category among the universities in the country.

“The varsity will receive Rs.9 crore from the Department of Science and Technology for the development of its science departments,” he said.

Among its key partnerships in research projects, the varsity has highlighted its technical collaboration in the India consortium for setting up the world’s largest radio telescope, the Square Kilometre Array (SKA).

Mr. Sebastian said the varsity had introduced common online admission process for nearly 430 academic programmes.

“Curriculum revision for all the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes will be over by March 2016,” he said.

On one project that could not take off as expected, the Vice Chancellor said the total computerisation initiative could not meet the expected deadline. “Only 60 per cent of the work has been completed. We hope to start rolling the project by next year,” he said.
