A meeting of the Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU) Syndicate on Monday decided to construct a new building complex at cost of ₹10 crore on the Muttom campus for accommodating the School of Tourism Studies.

The meeting, presided over by Vice-Chancellor in-charge Sabu Thomas, also decided to initiate action against the Principal of the St. Aloysius College, Edathua for opening the wrong bundle of question papers and conducting the B.Com (improvement) examination without adhering to the schedule set by the university.

Major lapse

Noting the incident, which had taken place in July last year as a major lapse, the varsity also entrusted Syndicate member Aji C. Panikker to probe the episode and submit a report within 30 days.

The Principal has already been suspended from the position of the Chief Superintendent of Examination.

Valuation camp

The meeting also decided to open a valuation camp at Carmelgiri College, Adimali, and offer a special chance for students who had been expelled from CMS college, Kottayam, to appear for the varsity examinations.

About 75% of the the National Service Scheme’s fund will be distributed to affiliated colleges by March 31.
