Chief Secretary Jiji Thomson has said that the government will seriously consider appointing psychologists and mental trainers at sports centres across the State.
Speaking to media persons after visiting students of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) who have been admitted at the Government T.D. Medical College Hospital here on Friday, the former Director-General of SAI said that the Water Sports Centre at Punnamada has been functioning well for 30 years.
“Having visited almost all centres of SAI during my tenure as Director-General, I can vouch for the centre in Alappuzha. At the same time, I do not completely reject the allegations that have been made against the SAI authorities. Only a thorough investigation could bring out the facts relating to the issue,” he said.
He added that the enquiry that was being undertaken by the Sports Secretary commenced a day ago.
Mr. Thomson said that he has brought to the attention of the Cabinet the situation of the G.V. Raja Sports School. A meeting will be held in Thiruvananthapuram during the next week to discuss the issue.
He also said that the proposal of establishing a permanent hostel for the SAI facility in Alappuzha will be considered. He held the view that systematic and disciplined training routines must be ensured at all sports academies.
