Narendra Modi inaugurates the campaign through videoconferencing across the country

The Swachhta Hi Seva campaign under the Swachh Bharath Mission was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi through videoconferencing across the country on Saturday. Amrithanandamayi Math in Kollam too became one of the videoconferencing venues.

Only representative

Spiritual leader Mata Amrithanandamayi was the only representative from Kerala to attend the conference. Actor Amitabh Bachchan, cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, spiritual leader Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and industrialist Ratan Tata, among others, participated in the event.

“For many years, the Math has been involved in campaigns and activities in areas such as environmental protection, cleanliness, health and water conservation. This year we conducted 1,700 cleanliness drives across the country. We constructed 15,000 toilets in Kerala,” she said.

She urged people across the country to take part in Swachhta Hi Seva campaign.

The campaign, which intends to involve people from all walks of life as active volunteers, also embodies the Suchitwa Mission’s motto, ‘My garbage, My responsibility,’ Executive Director of Suchitwa Mission R. Ajayakumar Varma said.

Focus of mission

The focus of Suchitwa Mission would be to usher in a new culture wherein people are encouraged to manage the garbage generated in their own homes in a scientific and safe manner, he added.

A State-level cleaning campaign organised by the Harithakeralam Mission was also launched in the State on Saturday.
