The government has given administrative sanction for setting up a store complex at Manjeri Medical College Hospital at a cost of ₹2.5 crore.
The store complex is being set up on the directives of the Medical Council of India to house safely and scientifically a year’s supply of all consumables used in the hospital, including drugs, dialysis fluids, chemicals, operation theatre consumables, other hospital equipment and cleaning materials. The 7,000-sq ft complex is being constructed by the PWD. It will have modern facilities to store drugs and to maintain the digital inventory of drugs.
The government has initiated measures to make Manjeri Medical College a Centre of Excellence by 2020, for which a ₹103-crore proposal has been drawn up. This includes the construction of separate hostels for men and women, auditorium, staff quarters and a football ground. The project has already got the technical approval and KITCO has been entrusted the construction work.
Faculty vacancies have already been filled, while the vacancies of non-teaching and administration staff are being filled, Health Minister K.K. Shylaja said.
The new OP block for the hospital will be constructed for ₹50 crore. The 10,000-sq m block will have 10 floors. An investigation block in 3,600 sq m is also being built at a cost of ₹15 crore.
Construction of a mortuary complex, residents’ quarters, CT scan facility and cardiothoracic block will be initiated soon. Computerisation and OP reformation as part of Aardram Mission is on. The government has also sanctioned a new cath lab for the MCH. The statement said that land acquisition on the approach road connecting the MCH and the bypass road would be initiated soon.
