A 60-year-old man died after fire engulfed the room in which he was asleep at Kunjathur near Manjeshwaram, police said.
The incident occurred around 11.30 p.m. on Sunday, as Balakrishna Rai, said to be an acute diabetic patient whose one leg had to be amputed due to the disease, suffered serious burn injuries. His relatives were present in the house at the time of the incident.
Although the man was rushed to the Community Health Centre at
nearby Mangalpadi, the doctors pronounced him brought dead, police said. The cause of the fire could not be established. Police, who have registered a case, are inquiring into the incident.
