‘CPI(M) silence surprising'

January 05, 2011 06:53 pm | Updated 06:53 pm IST - KANNUR:

K. Sudhakaran, MP, has alleged that the Communist Party of India (Marxist)'s silence on the allegation against Youth Congress leader and former Supreme Court Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan's son-in-law P.V. Sreenijan that he has assets disproportionate to his sources of income has raised the suspicion that the party could have used his services.

Reacting to a query on the issue during a press conference here on Wednesday, Mr. Sudhakaran said the CPI(M)'s silence was surprising and it was for the media to find out the reason. The CPI(M) normally missed no chance to react to even flimsy allegations against rival political leaders, he said.

He also wondered why CPI(M) leaders M.B. Rajesh, MP., and M.V. Jayarajan, who had earlier aired their reactions on the issue, were keeping silence now.

Welcoming Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan's decision to order a Vigilance inquiry against Mr. Sreenijan, the MP said that the Youth Congress should also conduct a probe into the allegation.
