Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has said though the State government had requested the Centre to deploy 19 companies of paramilitary forces to complement the preparations of the State for the smooth conduct of the local bodies polls on November 2 and 5, the Centre had refused the request on the grounds of elections in Bihar.

Addressing a meet the press programme organised by the Kollam Press Club here on Friday, he said the State government had repeated the request. “If that too is rejected, the State government will request the Tamil Nadu and Karnataka governments to send a few companies of their police forces,” he said. — Special Correspondent
