The district administration will submit a list of major land encroachments and unauthorised constructions in the district at a meeting convened by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Sunday.
The meeting assumes significance as it will decide the future of the eviction process in the main encroached areas in the district, including Munnar in Devikulam and Wagamon in Peermade taluks.
Over a 100 major land encroachments in Devikulam, Udumbanchola, Thodupuzha and Peermade taluks are on the list. Over 500 unauthorised constructions in Devikulam and Udumbanchola taluks too figure on the list, sources in the Revenue Department said.
1,500 acres
At the Chinnakanal village of the Devikulam taluk alone over 1,500 acres of land were found encroached up on. The encroachers’ list in Chinnakanal village include the Vellookunnel family of evangelist Tom Zakkariya; M.M. Lambodaran, brother of Electricity Minister M.M. Mani; and Communist Party of India (Marxist) local leader V.X. Albin.
A relative of a Minister in the United Democratic Front government too is on the list.
The Revenue Department collected details of the 30 major encroachers in Udumbanchola taluk. In Devikulam taluk, there are over 40 major encroachers.
20 acres by an individual
The names of a people’s representative from Idukki district and a Congress leader from Adimaly are on the list. Large-scale encroachments were found in Kottakamboor village in Devikulam taluk.
There are also details of an individual who encroached upon 20 acres of land at Pullikanam in Thodupuzha taluk. In Peerumade taluk, major encroachments were found in the hill stations of Wagamon and Panchalimedu.
List incomplete
The names of those who had encroached upon less than 10 acres of land do not figure on the list.
Sources said the list was incomplete as it had to be prepared within a short time. The list includes the land in survey No 20/1 which was evicted by the special team led by K. Suresh Kumar in the Munnar operation a decade back.
Re-survey has not been completed in villages like Chinnakanal.
A Revenue Department official said the resurvey was not completed as a large number of persons, who did not figure in the old survey, could illegally enter the official list and stake claim over the land. Thus there are chances of tampering with the official records to make the ownership of land legal, he said.
