Let SIT decide on probe closure: Minister

July 14, 2012 07:59 pm | Updated 07:59 pm IST - KOTTAYAM:

Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan has said that it is up to the Special Investigating Team (SIT) probing the murder of Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP) leader T.P. Chandrasekharan to decide whether the investigation could be concluded.

Mr. Radhakrishnan told mediapersons here on Saturday that although the SIT had either taken into custody or interrogated most of the accused in the case, it was yet to be ascertained whether the investigation could be wound up. “However, it must be noted that progress must also be made in filing the charge sheet in accordance with the court directives,” he said.

He also chose to correlate the investigation with the recent attacks at Gandhi Bhavan, his office here. “The culprits could have vested interests and might be responsible for the murder of Chandrasekharan. However, it is yet to be understood whether the progress of the investigation had instigated the attackers. Although some students were found to have broken the window panes, it must be further investigated as to who had asked them to launch the attack,” he said.
