LDF will emerge victorious in Alappuzha: Vellappally

Says will tonsure his head if prediction goes wrong

There will be no contest in Alappuzha and LDF candidate M.A. Arif will definitely emerge victorious in the Lok Sabha election, Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan has said.

Talking to mediapersons here on Wednesday, Mr. Natesan said he would tonsure his head and take a pilgrimage to Kashi (Banaras) if his prediction went wrong.

‘‘The Congress has no chance in Alappuzha as the party has tried its best to harm the community. Leaders such as K.C. Venugopal and V.M. Sudheeran have been attacking Ezhava community which has 44% votes and now they will have to face the music. The party has distanced itself from the community over the years and no Congress candidate will go to Parliament from Alappuzha,’’ he said.

Mr. Natesan said he had only sympathy for Adoor Prakash and his candidature would be suicidal in Alappuzha, if confirmed.

Calling Kummanam Rajasekharan an ascetic who has been working among the masses, he said Thiruvananthapuram is the only constituency where nothing could be predicted. ‘‘Shashi Tharoor is a scholar, but he is not popular among the people and there has been a complaint that he has neglected his constituency. But C. Divakaran is a strong candidate accepted by all classes and there will be a triangular contest in Thiruvananthapuram,’’ he said.

He said the BJP would be the single largest party at the national level, but it may not be able to form a government at the Centre on its own.

Talking about his son Thushar Vellappally’s possible candidature, he said he had no idea about it. The Yogam secretary said he did not support office-bearers of the SNDP contesting poll without resigning their position in the Yogam.
