Left Democratic Front (LDF) has written to Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan listing its arguments why the role of the Chief Minister and his office in the solar scam should be treated as the main item in the terms of reference (ToR) for the judicial inquiry being conducted into the scam.
The letter on Friday was in reply to a correspondence dated August 17 from the Home Minister seeking suggestions on the points to be brought under the purview of the judicial inquiry.
Briefing presspersons after sending the letter, LDF convener Vaikom Viswan said the Opposition’s demand all through had been that the Chief Minister should step down and face a judicial inquiry.
“The Chief Minister’s office was the epicentre of this swindling operation that has shocked the State. Several revelations, documentary evidence, and circumstantial evidence point to the clear role of the Chief Minister, his assistants, and his office in the swindling.
So it is imperative that this aspect of the scam is brought under the purview of the judicial inquiry,” Mr. Viswan said.
The letter drew the attention of the Home Minister to the complaints legally presented by Konni-based businessman Sreedharan Nair, Perumbavoor-based investor Sajjad, and two other investors M.K. Kuruvila and T.C. Mathew, describing how they were duped into investing large sums of money in a business proposition that had the Chief Minister’s patronage.
“The statements given by all victims of the scam were against the Chief Minister and his office.
However, there has been no investigation into the role of the Chief Minister and his office in the scam,” Mr. Viswam said.
The letter also refers to certain observations the Court made while hearing matters connected with the scam.
“On July 23, two separate benches of the High Court made adverse remarks against the Chief Minister’s office.
The Court asked whether the swindling had occurred with the knowledge of the Chief Minister and made an observation that the role of those close to the power centre in this swindling case deserved to be subjected to an investigation.
The observation that there should be an investigation against the Chief Minister is serious,” the LDF says in its letter.
