Incessant rain and landslips wreaked havoc in the hill district of Wayanad on Tuesday, forcing many families to move to nearby safer places. Flooding in Panamaram river and its tributaries threatened to inundate several low-lying areas. The district remained isolated from the rest of the State on Tuesday.

Close to 300 families in the area were shifted to relief camps.

According to official figures, 15,785 people from 4, 187 families were still staying in 127 relief camps, including 59 camps in Mananthavady taluk, seven in Sulthan Bathery and the remaining relief camps in Vythiri taluk.
