Landslips, flooding hit Kottiyur

Ambayathodu witnesses massive landslip

Kottiyur in the Iritty taluk was partially isolated as landslips and flooding that occurred in the area on Thursday cut off road connectivity and damaged properties and crops.

As incessant rain continued in the eastern hill areas of the district, the Kottiyur village that had been battered by the flooding and landslips last week witnessed largescale landslip at Ambayathode on Thursday morning in continuation of minor landslips last night.

The road connectivity of the village was affected as the overflowing Bavalippuzha river flooded the interior roads in the area. A bridge across the river in the area was badly damaged by the flood water. Officials said that Army and Fire and Rescue Services personnel were in the area trying to salvage the bridge.

‘‘It is flood water everywhere and we are not in a position to decide where to go to attend to the situation,’’ Iritty Tahsildar K.K. Divakaran said over the phone.
