Though the intensity of the rain has subsided, the threat of landslips looms large in the district. More relief camps were opened on Saturday. Some areas remained cut off and the Kallarkutty-Panamkutty road was blocked after soil piping was reported on the road.
Local bus services were partially cancelled from Friday and a few services on the main road connecting the district with Kottayam and Thodupuzha resumed on Saturday.
In Munnar, water has receded from a portion submerged by the Muthirapuzha river. However, the Munnar-Udumalpet road remained cut off after the temporary bridge at Periyavarai was swallowed by the surging river.
Landslips were reported at Attapallom, near Kumily, and Kudayathur, near Thodupuzha. There were no casualties. The district reported a rainfall of 48.37 mm on Saturday.
The water level in the Idukki dam rose by 7.5 ft from the previous day to reach 2,336 ft on Saturday morning. The water level in the Mullaperiyar dam reached 127 ft.
As many as 1,192 persons were housed in 25 relief camps, including those opened on Saturday. There were 133 children, 572 women and 486 men from 340 families. Most of the relief camps are in the high range, especially in the tea and cardamom plantation areas.
