District Collector A.R. Ajayakumar has directed senior officials of various departments to expedite measures to provide land to the landless tribespeople who were involved in the Muthanga agitation.

The District Collector told mediapersons here on Monday after a review meeting that he had directed the officials concerned to complete the proceedings related to survey of the land that was allotted to the tribespeople by the end of September.

Possession certificates

The district administration will provide possession certificates of the land to the tribespeople by the middle of October, Mr. Ajayakumar said.

As many as 178 of the 283 tribal families, who were involved in the Muthanga land agitation, were provided land.

In all, 141 families among them were provided possession certificates and 37 families would be provided deeds of the land soon, he said.

Sixty-five acres of land, including 39 acres in Sulthan Bathery taluk and 26 acres in Mananthavadi taluks, were identified for the purpose.

A joint team of officials of the Survey and Revenue Departments would inspect the land.

The team has been directed to submit a report to the District Collector in a week, he added.
