Listing agriculture and bamboo processing as two major areas in which Kerala and Mizoram can collaborate on a mutually benefiting manner, Mizoram Governor Kummanam Rajasekharan on Monday said he would act as a facilitator between the two States.

“I have already held a discussion with Kerala Agriculture Minister V.S. Sunil Kumar and he promised to send an expert team from the State to Mizoram to study the prospects. More consultations would be held between the two State governments in the coming months,” he said.

Forest area

“Eighty-eight per cent of Mizoram is forest. Bamboo forests would constitute 30% of the total forests. Sixty per cent of the agriculture in the State is pesticide free. The State has also got a large pool of skilled tribal artisans and craftsmen. We can utilise all these advantages in a mutually benefiting manner,” he said.

Welfare needs

He said he was providing special attention to the welfare needs of tribal majority autonomous regions of Mizoram. Mr. Rajasekharan was interacting with media persons after visiting Sobha Hermitage at Panniyankara near here, run by Sri Kurumba Educational and Charitable Trust, the corporate social responsibility (CSR) arm of Sobha Ltd. on Monday. A civic reception was accorded to him in Palakkad town in the evening.
