The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is planning to do away with khaki uniform for its employees from July 1. The State government move to change the colour and pattern of the uniform has been largely welcomed by the workforce.

Many employees are enthusiastic about the proposed change with some pointing out that it should have been implemented long ago.

The move of the Transport Department had to be put on hold for a few months following the demand made by KSRTC pensioners to clear their dues before implementing the move.

From July 1, conductors and drivers will switch over to navy blue trousers and sky blue shirts/churidars.

“Despite the immense value of our service to the State, many continue to hold the perception that khakis are reminders of the exploitation and inhumane treatment meted out to the labour class by the colonial powers,” claims Aji Chandrasekharan, an announcer at the city bus station at East Fort.
