KSKTU seeks revised grant under housing scheme

September 18, 2013 02:35 pm | Updated June 02, 2016 01:05 pm IST - KALPETTA:

The Kerala State Karshaka Thozhilali Union (KSKTU) district unit will launch a series of agitations seeking the revised grant for beneficiaries of the Indira Avas Yojana (IAY) and EMS Housing Scheme.

Speaking to mediapersons in Kalpetta on Tuesday, Suresh Thaloor, district secretary, KSKTU, said the amount for constructing houses under the projects had been revised upward as per a government order issued in 2012. But, as many as 2,004 beneficiaries under the IAY and close to 5,000 beneficiaries under the EMS housing project, including hundreds of tribespeople, were yet to get the revised amount in the district, Mr. Thaloor said.

The rates had been revised owing to the increase in the price of construction material. As per the order, those who had signed the agreement for constructing houses after April 1 in 2011 and September 5 in 2012, under EMS and IAY projects respectively, were to get the revised rate, Mr. Thaloor said. The KSKTU was planning to intensify its agitation against the laxity of the government and the local bodies in paying the revised rate, he said. The organisation would stage dharnas in front of grama panchayat offices on Thursday, he added.
