Kodikunnil defends Kurien

February 12, 2013 07:25 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 10:27 pm IST - PALAKKAD:

Union Minister of State for Labour Kodikunnil Suresh has said that the demand for the resignation of Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman P.J. Kurien is politically motivated.

Talking to presspersons here on Tuesday, Mr. Suresh pointed out that the highest court of the land had exonerated Prof. Kurien in the Suryanelli sex scandal case years ago. ‘‘The opinion of the Congress high command is that there is no need for Prof. Kurien to quit.”

Asked about the revelations made by Dharmarajan, the third accused and the only one convicted in the case, Mr. Suresh said “it is a convicted person’s statement, which will not be taken seriously by court. A convict’s statement is not considered as evidence,” the Minister said.
