‘Kiss against Fascism’ to be held on Sunday

January 03, 2015 09:55 am | Updated 09:56 am IST - ALAPPUZHA

The Alappuzha beach will become the venue of ‘Kiss against Fascism’, a symbolic protest against moral policing and social inequality faced by women in the State, on Sunday.

Speaking to reporters here on Friday, programme organisers Maya Krishnan, M. Rajesh, Lazar Shine and P.S. Sumanan said the freedom of women had been impeded at various levels in the State, irrespective of their background or community. “Moral policing has reached an extent that such tendencies have begun to restrict the mobility of women,” they said. The organisers claimed that such protests could not be dismissed as platforms for exchanging kisses or hugs.

“Instead, they should be seen as solidarity towards equality for women in all aspects in the society. Violence unleashed by radical groups will not be able to suppress such forms of demonstrations owing to the increasing public support,” they claimed.

The organisers added that the demonstration, which will commence at 2 p.m., will also involve discussions in which eminent personalities in the socio-cultural and political fields will participate.
