The CPI(M) organised a ‘satyagraha’ here on Monday to counter the BJP’s allegation during its Janaraksha Yatra that its workers were victims of ‘red terror’.
The function held at the Stadium Corner here was attended by members of families of slain CPI(M) activists and victims of violence by BJP and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) activists.
A group of artists painted images warning the emergence of fascism. Banners with pictures of victims of attacks by BJP-RSS activists were displayed.
Against RSS sakhas
Inaugurating the programme, CPI(M) central committee member E.P. Jayarajan said that the RSS was pursuing the methods of Hitler. The Sangh Parivar initially targeted educational institutions in the country, he said adding that its workers were behind communal riots. He also told parents not to send their children to RSS shakhas if they did not want to destroy them.
CPI(M) leader K.P. Sahadevan presided.
In his welcome address, the CPI(M) district secretary P. Jayarajan said the BJP was targeting the CPI(M) because the latter was fighting against the RSS’ ideology. The CPI(M) was the main obstacle to the RSS’ efforts to tighten its grip over India, he said. Indicating that there was no moral equivalence between the actions of the CPI(M) and the RSS, he said that the two organisations could not be weighed on the same balance.
P.K. Sreemathi, MP, inaugurated the function to mark the conclusion of the gathering. A.N. Shamseer, MLA, was present.
