Kerala Minister for Water Resources P.J. Joseph has said that the State government is planning to send an all-party delegation to Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the Mullaperiyar dam issue. A decision on this will be taken at the next Cabinet meeting.

Addressing mediapersons after a high-level official meeting at the Collector’s chamber here on Monday, Mr. Joseph said he was hopeful of a favourable decision from the Supreme Court on the review petition filed by the State.

There was no lapse on the part of the government with regard to the security arrangements, he said.

District Police Superintendent Alex M. Varkey said an additional police force of 50 personnel had been deployed exclusively for Mullaperiyar duty increasing the total deployment to 250 police personnel.

A 30-member National Disaster Management Team was also deployed at Vandiperiyar. Electricity lines were drawn to more areas to ensure availability of power.

The 120 families living in the riverbed were given special consideration to ensure security. The Minister said a team of counsellors would address the fear psychosis that gripped children.

A five-member subcommittee appointed by the high power monitoring committee will visit the dam on Tuesday and review the situation. A team led by the District Collector and the ADM will visit the dam in the morning.
