Kerala Sahitya Akademi awards announced

V.J. James’s Nireeswaran adjudged best novel of 2017

The Kerala Sahitya Akademi Awards for 2017 have been announced.

Nireeswaran by V.J. James has been selected the best novel. Mindaprani, written by Veerankutty, is the best poetry. Aymanam John’s Ethara Characharangalude Charitra Pusthakam has secured the award for the best short story.

Overall contributions

Pazhavila Rameshan, M.P. Parameswaran, Kunjappa Pattannur, K.G. Paulose, K. Ajitha, and C.L. Jose have been selected for awards for their overall contributions. The awards carry a purse of ₹30,000. K.N. Panikker and Attur Ravivarma will be presented with akademi’s fellowships worth ₹50,000.

The other award winners are S.V. Venugopalan Nair (drama - Swadeshabhimani ); Kalpatta Narayanan (Literary criticism - Kavithayude Jeeva Charithram ); N.J.K. Nair (Scholarly literature - Nadhee Vignaneeyam ); Jayachandran Mokeri (Biography - Ente Jail Jeevitham ); C.V. Balakrishnan (Travelogue - Ethetho Saranikalil ); Rama Memon (Translation - Parvathangalum Mattoli Kollunnu ); V.R. Sudheesh (Children’s literature - Kurukkan Mashinte School ); Chovvallur Krishnan Kutty (Humour - Ezhuthanukaranam Anuranangalum ).

Endowment Awards

P. Pavithran ( Mathrubhashakku Vendiyulla Samaram ); Murali Thummarukudi ( Kazhchapadukal ); P.K. Sreedharan ( Adaida Shikharam Thedi ); S. Kalesh ( Sabda Mahasamudram ); Abin Joseph ( Kalyasseri Thesis ); P. Soman ( Marxism Laingikatha Sthree Paksham ) and Sheethal Rajagopal ( Essay Competition ) have got endowment awards.
