The son and son-in-law of P.T.A. Rahim, MLA from Kunnamangalam in Kozhikode district, are among 19 Keralites arrested by Saudi Arabian police for alleged economic offence.

Shabeer P.T, the MLA's son, and Shabeer Vayoli, his son-in-law, were reportedly arrested in Al Khobar in the Dammam metropolitan area in Saudi Arabia nearly a fortnight ago. The duo were running a business venture called Global Business Solutions at Al Khobar.

The exact nature of the economic offence for which they have been arrested is yet unclear.

Indians, especially Keralites, are frequently arrested in Saudi Arabia for the so-called ‘hawala’ transaction, the illegal transfer of money back home.

Mr. Rahim, State president of the National Secular Conference party, is a fourth-time MLA – earlier from Koduvally and later from Kunnamangalam.

Further details are awaited.
