The district has recorded a 12 per cent increase in milk production.
The total quantity of milk collected daily from 19,413 dairy farmers in 202 farmers’ societies in the district is 1,24,000 litres as against 1,08,000 litres collected last year, an official press release here on Thursday said.
The increase in milk production is attributed to the Integrated Dairy Development Project (IDDP) and Central schemes implemented through local bodies.
The press release said that the projects implemented during the period included renovation of dairy farmers’ societies, purchase of milk quality testing equipment, construction of rooms for milk collection, farmers’ information centres, automatic milk collection unit, and information kiosks.
The cost of these projects implemented in the last financial year was Rs.1.17 crore.
Of Rs.5 crore granted for the IDDP, Rs.3.5 crore was spent for the milk shed development scheme and the rest for fodder grass cultivation programme, the release said.
