Kannur beach run on November 15

The North Malabar Chamber of Commerce (NMCC) will be organising the ‘Kannur beach run’ on World Diabetes Day on November 15 with the objective of strengthening the sporting spirit of the town and raising awareness on healthy lifestyles.

Announcing this in a press release here on Wednesday, the NMCC said that the Kannur beach run planned along the Payyambalam beach here will be an annual event. The upcoming event is being organised in association with Diacare, a centre for treatment of diabetes here.

The beach run plan was formally inaugurated by District Collector P. Bala Kiran in August and its logo was released by Deputy General of Police Dinendra Kashyap, the release said adding that Olympian Anju Bobby George is the brand ambassador of the run.

The organisers said that they are planning a series of promotional events before the event by roping in star sports personalities.

The event is planned in two categories, namely 10K beach run and 3K beach run. The registration for participation in the event can be done either online (www.kannurbeachrun.com) or directly, the release noted.

The prize money for the main event includes Rs. 50,000 (first prize), Rs. 25,000 (second prize) and Rs. 10,000 (third prize) in men and women’s category each. The last date for registration is October 31.
