KAMCO plant to be operational soon: Minister

Agriculture Minister K.P. Mohanan has said that the construction of the power tiller manufacturing unit of the Kerala Agro Machinery Corporation Ltd. (KAMCO) at Valiyavelicham near Koothuparamba here will be completed by November.

At a meeting to review the progress of the work at the plant on Monday, the Minister said the Rs. 20 crore manufacturing unit will be a New Year gift to the people of Kannur.

The plant will be operational by December, the Minister said.

The Minister said that the products being manufactured from the unit include new generation power tillers with self-starter, garden tiller and brush cutter with diesel engine.

Rainwater harvest

The Minister also said that a rainwater harvest unit will also be built at the plant in view of the water scarcity at Valiyavelicham.

Mr. Mohanan said the plant will employ 150 people directly and 300-odd people indirectly.

Industrial park

The plant being completed at the Industrial Growth Centre at Valiyavelicham will also amount to fulfilment of the idea of industrial park envisaged under the growth centre, he added.

KAMCO chairman Charupara Ravi, Managing Director Subair Khan and Director K.P. Chandran were among those present at the meeting.
