The Wayanad district administration has issued an alert to the Excise and police departments on smuggling of spirit and drugs from neighbouring States, brewing of illicit liquor and its distribution during Onam festival days.
The district administration directed the departments to organise joint operations and special enforcement drives to curb liquor flow from neighbouring States. Round-the-clock vehicle inspections will be intensified at Bavali,Tholpetty and Muthanga Excise checkposts on the Kerala-Karnataka border.
Control room opened
The Excise Department has opened a 24-hour control room based on the Wayanad Excise Division office at Meenangadi in the district to prevent smuggling of spirit, brewing of illicit liquor and its distribution.
In a statement issued here on Thursday Excise Department officials said that action would be taken on complaints received at the control room.
