The 41st State meet of the Joint Council of State Service Organisations began at Adoor with a proclamation rally followed by a public meeting on Thursday afternoon.
The rally began from Holy Cross Junction and concluded at the KSRTC corner in the town.
All India Trade Union Congress general secretary Amarjeet Kaur inaugurated the public meeting.
Communist Party of India central secretariat member Pannian Ravindran presided over the meeting.
Chittayam Gopakumar, MLA; G.K.Pradeep, reception committee convener; A.P.Jayan, CPI district secretary; R.Sajilal, AIYF State president; Shubhesh Sudhakaran, AISF State secretary; Malayalappuzha Sasi, Joint Council former State secretary; and R.Sasi, district secretary, addressed the function. Ms. Kaur said the acquisition of 77% stake in the e-commerce company Flipkart by the US-based Walmart would be detrimental to the interests of small and medium traders. She said the negative economic policies of the Centre had started affecting Kerala too.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pre-poll promise of creating two crore jobs had been proved hollow as he could not even generate two lakh employment opportunities in the past three years, she said. Ms. Kaur alleged that the Modi government promoted contract jobs and outsourcing, leaving the youth vulnerable. The Indian economy was flowing into the hands of corporate giants under Mr. Modi.
Delegates’ session
CPI State secretary Kanam Rajendran will inaugurate the delegates’ session to be held at the Mar Thoma Youth Centre on Friday forenoon. G.Motilal, Joint Council chairman, will preside over the function.
National Federation of Indian Women general secretary Annie Raja will inaugurate a women’s meet on Saturday.
The four-day meet will conclude on Sunday.
