November 18, 2011 12:17 pm | Updated 12:17 pm IST - KANNUR:

Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader M.V. Jayarajan, who had been released on bail by the Supreme Court after the High Court sent him to the Central Prison in Thiruvananthapuram in a contempt of court case, was received by party workers at the railway station here on Thursday.

CPI(M) and Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) workers received Mr. Jayarajan, party State committee member, when he arrived here from the capital in a morning train. Sentenced to six-month jail term by the High Court in the contempt case initiated by the court for his alleged derogatory remarks about judges at a public speech, Mr. Jayarajan had spent nine days in prison before his release.

He said his days in prison would strengthen his and his party's struggle for civic rights. He said Chief Minister Oommen Chandy should bring in legislation for protecting the people's rights.

CPI(M) district secretary P. Jayarajan, MLAs T.V. Rajesh and K.K. Narayanan, party leaders M. Prakashan and N. Chandran were among those who reached the station to receive him.
