The first State-level open water swimming competitions, ‘Jalakeli-2012’, will be held at the Pampa Water Stadium in river Pampa at Neerettupuram near Thiruvalla on Sunday.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Mr Koshy Thomas, Pathanamthitta District Aquatic Association secretary, said Mr Thomas Chandy, MLA, would inaugurate the swimming competitions at a function to be held at Neerettupuram at 10 am on Sunday.
Mr Eapen Kurien, Pulikeezhu Block Panchayat president, will preside over the inaugural function and Mr P. Venugopal, District Collector, will flag off the contest.
As many as 100 men, women and children are expected to take part in the competitions to be held in different categories, Mr Thomas said.
