Veteran Malayalam actor Jagathy Sreekumar, who has been confined indoors following a major car accident in 2012, will soon face the arc lights again.

His son Rajkumar told mediapersons in Kochi on Tuesday that his father will act in an ad film for a water theme park, in what the family members expect to be the beginning of a possible return of the hugely popular Malayalam actor to the big screen.

Jagathy Sreekumar was seriously injured when the car in which he was travelling rammed a median while negotiating a dangerous curve at Tenhipalam in Malappuram district on March 10, 2012. He sustained multiple fractures and injuries on his head, chest, and abdomen. The actor's speech and his ability to recognise people were affected. However, efforts by the family members and continued support from his well-wishers in the industry and fans helped him to recover.

The shooting for the ad film will be held at a water theme park in Thrissur on February 27. Mr. Rajkumar said the family members would be a part of the ad film. “Doctors had advised us that bringing him in front of the camera would be a major boost in his recovery process. He had always loved cinema and cherished being in the company of actors and technicians,” Mr. Rajkumar added.

In a career spanning over four decades, Jagathy Sreekumar had acted in over 1,100 films. He was shuttling from one location to another at the peak of his career when the accident occurred. Besides rated as one of the finest comedians ever in Malayalam, he had portrayed several memorable character roles in several movies.
