Labour Minister Shibhu Baby John said here on Thursday that the industrial training centres in the State would be developed as centres of excellence in different domains.

Addressing a press conference, the Minister said that the course structure and facilities would be upgraded for better skill development.

Mr. John also announced that certification of security service personnel and home nurses would be introduced soon. Academies would be set up for these purposes. Steps would also be taken to ensure minimum wages for home nurses and people employed by security agencies.

He said that the proposed construction academy would offer training for masons to engineers. Foreign tie-ups for establishment of the academy would be decided soon.

A self regulating system had been mooted to check exploitation of fresh recruits and trainees at the Technopark.

The Minister said that 90 per cent of the programmes announced by departments under him had been completed. The draft labour policy had been released for discussions and it would be finalised in a month.
